Every day people walk up and down Bangor’s sidewalks. Several handicapped people and children use these sidewalks to get to jobs and schools and many destinations.
So, why are these sidewalks in such bad condition? My family and I go for walks every night. I push my 1-year-old in a stroller and I have to walk in the street because the sidewalks are so bad. The tree roots have literally lifted our sidewalks. That is a danger and a threat to all who use them. I have seen numerous children riding their bikes in the streets because of the sidewalks.
What can we do to fix this problem? I have found the Fairmount area and Hammond Street to be the worst yet. Motorists are also at risk. They have to swerve to avoid hitting an individual. Let’s stop an accident before it happens. Let’s fix these sidewalks and make them safe for everyone. Jennifer Thibodeau Bangor
