Weed goal lifts Husson by UMF

BANGOR – Leslie Weed converted a Jenny Fish cross with five minutes left in the game to give the Husson College Braves a 1-0 women’s soccer win over the University of Maine-Farmington Saturday.

Goalie Meghan Taylor stopped 10 for the 9-5-0 Braves.

Goalies Pam Goyette and Alyson Pontbriend combined to save four for the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers.

UMPI 2, Thomas 1

At Presque Isle Sunday, Anna Marcino and Renee Martin scored for the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls to give them the win over Thomas College of Waterville.

Heather Norsworthy added an assist. Devin Jewett was in goal for the 6-5-0 Owls.

Jenn McNally scored an unassisted goal for Thomas College of Waterville. Goalie Angela Stevens stopped 12 of 21 for the 2-8-1 Terriers.

Middlebury 2, Colby 1

At Middlebury, Meg Bonney led Middlebury with one goal and one assist.

Molly Holmberg also scored. Goalie Ali Connolly stopped four of six for the 8-2 Panthers.

Christine O’Donnell netted a goal for Colby. Goalie Abby Kussel saved nine of 18 for the 3-5-1 White Mules.

Towson 2, Maine 0

At Orono, Melissa Mueller scored the game-winner on a Jenn Cook assist for Towson.

Maggie Lennon added an assurance goal. Goalie Tina Steck stopped one for the 5-7 Tigers.

Goalie Naomi Welsh saved two for the 1-13 Black Bears.

Green Mountain 1, St. Joseph’s 0

At Standish, Courtney Fanning scored on a direct kick with 20 seconds remaining in overtime to win it for Green Mountain College.

Goalie Sara Allen stopped one for the 14-2-1 Eagles.

Goalie Kendra Brown saved five for the 7-4-1 St. Joseph’s Monks.

Men’s soccer

Towson 2, Maine 1

At Towson, Alfonso DeMares led Towson by netting two goals on the day.

Colin Carew and Todd Lauber added assists. Goalie Chris Hurley stopped two of 10 for the 7-3-3 Tigers.

Ricky Brown scored on a pass from Josh Carpenter for Maine. Goalie Aaron Weymouth saved seven of 18 for the 2-8-2 Black Bears.

UM-Presque Isle 5, UMFK 0

At Fort Kent, Mark Barthelemy netted two goals on the day for the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Darren Belskis, Tony Caristi, and Shaun Breton also scored. Donald Jenn Francois added three assists and Ryan Saucier had one. Goalie Jon Cole stopped 11 of 17 for the Owls.

Goalie Mark Brown saved seven of 13 for the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals.

UM-Farmington 1, Husson 1

At Farmington, the University of Maine at Farmington scored on an own goal by Husson with five minutes left in the second half of a double overtime game.

Husson returned with a penaly kick goal from Broch Mattson. The teams went scoreless in the both overtimes.

Goalie Nick Moulton made eight saves for 7-4-1 Farmington. Goalie Mark Cucinelli stopped eight for the 8-5-1 Braves.

Middlebury 4, Colby 0

At Middlebury, Goalie Brian Hamm stopped two of three to lead the 8-0-2 Middlebury defense.

Chris Wenger, John Giannacopoulos, and Nelson Martelle all netted goals. Sergey Cherednichenko added two assists.

Goalie Justin Amirault saved four of 14 for the 4-4 White Mules.

Field hockey

St. Joseph’s 3, Wheelock 2

At Standish, Jen Small and Christy Charron scored on penalty strokes after two overtimes to seal the game for St. Joseph’s.

Heather O’Boyle also scored on an assist from Lib Johnson. Goalie Laura Lombardi stopped eight for the 8-5 Monks.

Sadie Dunharmel scored and added an assist for Wheelock College of Boston. Amy Frausine also scored. Goalie Krysten Robichaud saved six for the 3-7 Wildcats.

Colby 3, Middlebury 2

At Middlebury, Colby pulled out a victory in post double overtime penalty strokes.

Robynne DeCarprio scored two to pace Colby. Becca Bruce and Sarah Brown added assists. Goalie Jane Stevens stopped 15 of 24 for the 6-4 White Mules.

Kate Perine and Sarah Theall scored for Middlebury College. Goalie Becca Randall saved seven of 10 for the 6-5 Panthers.

Northeastern 1, Maine 0

At Brookline, Mass., Jackie Carl scored on an assist from Heidi Benson and Kelly Williams for Northeastern.

Goalie Kathleen Madaus stopped six for the 6-9 Huskies.

Goalie Danielle Burke saved eight for the 6-9 Black Bears.

Wheelock 4, Thomas 3

At Waterville, Amy Frausin scored a hat trick to lead Wheelock College of Boston to victory.

Liz Costigan also had a goal. Diana Takores and Sadie Dunhamel added assists on the day. Goalie Krysten Robichard stopped five of 11 for Wheelock.

Erin Lovely scored and had an assist for Thomas. Melissa Tibbetts and Dawn Holland also scored. Kristin Clark added an assist. Goalie Ellen Prosser saved six of 11 for 1-6 Thomas College.
