Brunswick man charged with trafficking heroin

BRUNSWICK – A former honors student is facing drug trafficking charges after state police allegedly found 48 small plastic bags of heroin in his car when it crashed into a snowbank off Interstate 95, authorities said.

Carson C. Vomorde, 19, of Brunswick was arrested Feb. 16 and charged with operating under the influence and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.

Police said they discovered 48 plastic bags of heroin at the accident off Exit 22.

Vomorde, a 2001 graduate of Brunswick High School, wasn’t injured.

State police had been looking for the car after they received calls indicating the driver was operating erratically, said Sgt. Mark LaFountain of the Brunswick Police Department. Police officers along with police dogs searched the car and found the drugs.

Vomorde was taken to Cumberland County Jail and released Sunday on $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on April 24.

Vomorde’s mother, who declined to give her first name, said she thinks her son may have been set up.

“He might have been arrested for it, but it wasn’t necessarily his,” she said. “It looks like he was set up. Somebody might have put something outside.”

Vomorde’s mother said the heroin was found outside of the car.
