WCTC banquet to stress worldwide hunger issues

CALAIS – A hunger banquet will be held at the Washington County Technical College on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

The hunger benefit is a metaphor for how food and other resources are distributed inequitably on the planet, said John Miller, WCTC public affairs director.

Everyone will be fed at the banquet, Miller said, “but, like humanity around the world and right here at home, participants will consume meals reflective of the reality of life. Everyone is guaranteed to come away with their hearts and minds full.”

Residents of Maine’s Washington County and of Charlotte County, New Brunswick, will have a unique opportunity to learn about poverty and hunger in the world, he said.

The guest speaker at the event will be Georgie Kendall, who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa. Culinary instructor Marie Emerson and her students will prepare the food.

Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance by calling the school at 454-1000. The event is open to the public.
