Tuttle, Blanchard key Presque Isle in prelim

PRESQUE ISLE – Autumn Tuttle poured in 21 points as the Presque Isle girls basketball team topped John Bapst 60-31 Saturday in a Class A Northeastern region prelim high school game.

Billi Blanchard chipped in with 12 points and five assists for the No. 7 Wildcats.

Casey Ryder led the No. 10 Crusaders of Bangor with six points.

At Waterville, the No. 9 Witches hit 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter and Amy Freeman poured in 20 points as they knocked off the No. 8 Panthers in a Northeastern Class A prelim game.

Carolyn McAvoy added 17 points and Rachel Wing contributed 10 for Brewer.

Waterville’s Tracy Nale led all scorers with 31 points.

Ice hockey

Houlton-Hodgdon 5, Stearns 4

At John Millar Civic Center in Houlton, Kevin Carton converted a pass from Jared Sylvia with 56 seconds remaining in the game to propel No. 4 Houlton-Hodgdon to a Class B Northeastern quarterfinal victory over No. 5 Stearns of Millinocket.

The Blackhawks scored four goals in the third period to overcome a 2-1 Stearns lead.

Kevin Carton finished with two goals and an assist, Sylvia had a goal and an assist and Brandon Carmichael and Chris Weber both fired in a goal for 8-13 Houlton-Hodgdon. Ben Carton contributed two assists and Brandon Lowe dished out an assist. Ryan Blanchette recorded 16 saves on 20 shots.

For the 8-11 Minutemen, Matt Michaud netted all four goals and Sean Jamieson notched two assists. Nick Simon turned away 34 of 39 shots.

Presque Isle 4, Old Town 2

At the Forum in Presque Isle, Darren Carlisle netted a pair of goals as the No. 3 Wildcats knocked off No. 6 Old Town in the Class B Northeastern quarterfinals.

Ben Sirois and Steve LaPlante scored a goal each while Trevor Graves, Tom Gregg and Steve Currier logged assists. Carlisle’s last goal came on an empty net. Travis Snow stopped 15 of 17 shots as Presque Isle improved to 12-9.

For the 4-15 Indians, Josh Fournier and Josh Buzzell had a goal apiece and Dave Marley notched two assists. J. P. Stowe recorded 32 saves on 35 shots.

John Bapst 7, Foxcroft 6

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Bill Chapman put in two goals, including the eventual game-winner in the second half and added an assist to lead the No. 2 Crusaders in a Class B Northeastern region quarterfinal.

Colby Therriault also scored twice and had an assist for John Bapst of Bangor, now 15-6. John Motta added two goals, Zach Means scored one, and Taylor Lynn chipped in with five assists. Dan Leighton made 20 saves on 26 shots.

Corey Beaulieu knocked in two goals for the No. 2 Ponies (4-15). Hunter Wilbur and Derek Smith each scored a goal and added one assist. Ryan McNulty and Brandon Johnson scored one goal apiece. Ethan Annis and Mike Freese each assisted on a goal. Dan Perkins stopped 27 of 34 shots.
