Down East feast

The Redclyffe Shore Motor Inn in Robbinston recently won its eighth Golden Fork Award and has been recognized by the Gourmet Diners Society of North America as a 2002 Restaurant of Distinction. Restaurants are chosen for professionalism, quality of food, customer service and hospitality rather than expensive food and lavish surroundings. Among Redclyffe Shore’s specialties are baked haddock with lobster sauce, garlic mushrooms, Red-Rum-Clyffe steak and roast duckling. The restaurant is closed for the winter and will reopen this spring. For information, call 454-3270.

A jazzy affair

The music may be delicious, but the food won’t play second fiddle at the District 6 Jazz Festival, which takes place from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mount Desert Island High School. Because the school isn’t centrally located, festival organizers thought it was especially important to offer a variety of selections, in addition to the standard hot dogs and fries. This year’s offerings include a vegan vegetable soup, fresh pizza, veggie-stuffed pitas, meat-filled sandwiches and baked goods. Chef Michael Anderson, former director of College of the Atlantic’s award-winning food-service facility, will cater the festival dinner with his wife, Fayelle. The duo recently opened August Moon catering in Bar Harbor and plan to serve two kinds of lasagna (one vegetarian), a green salad and garlic bread. Lunches cost between $2 and $2.50 and dinner will cost $6 per person. For information, call 244-4313.
