Mike Laberge of the Bangor Daily News staff wrote an interesting article (Jan. 5) about specialty automobile license plates.
Being the wife of a World War II veteran, an ex-prisoner of war and a holder of the Purple Heart, we could have three or more sets of license plates, but as I am not one of those people, I could not in good conscience drive a vehicle so marked. I am glad that he prefers his non-identifying plate of five digits as he finds that easy to remember as the numbers are all the same.
I have no feelings one way or another about the issue of designated plates and if the state can make money selling them, let’s go for it. I do have misgivings about the handicapped plate on cars I see being parked in specifically marked places and disgorging a person or persons that just happen to be driving or riding in the car when the handicapped person seems to have been left at home.
