Women’s hockey

Friars, Huskies beat Black Bears

At Orono, Providence and Northeastern picked up women’s hockey victories over the University of Maine over the weekend. The Friars downed the Black Bears 8-2 Saturday, while the Huskies blanked UMaine 2-0 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Providence racked up five first-period goals to take the victory. Jackie Tamsin scored two goals for the winners, who outshot the Bears 30-20.

Alison Lorenz and Raffi Wolf scored for Maine.

On Sunday, Dawn Froats registered 23 saves for the Bears, who were stymied by NU’s Erika Silva.
