BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

This winter there has been an unusually large number of fatal house fires and snowmobile and vehicle accidents. A portion of the vast amount of television broadcasting available could be used to prevent some of this.

Brief videos could be presented warning people of the hazards. Instead of verbal advice, a video could illustrate the danger of leaving candles near draperies, space heaters and near furniture. It could educate out-of-state snowsledders on the many curves and bumps in Maine sled trails and give tips on handling a vehicle on black ice and slush.

The great number of people who watch TV see hundreds of advertisements. It is, therefore, puzzling why insurance companies and safety officials have not used this method in an effort to reduce accidents. Jack Duncan Presque Isle
