On Feb. 10, the U. S. House of Representatives, by a vote of 268-158, passed the Marriage Tax Penalty Relief Act of 2000. This act will treat married taxpayers equally with unmarried taxpayers and not as second-class citizens who should pay more of their hard-earned money to the federal government.

Two hundred nineteen Republicans voted for this act along with 48 Democrats and one independent. But Reps. Tom Allen and John Baldacci voted against it. Whose money do these two representatives think it is, the government’s? This may be something to remember in November. Ted Onyshczak Caribou
