Dr. Thomas Vanidestine Jr., a Bangor native who graduated from the Logan College of Chiropractic in April 1990, has opened an office at Suite 2G in Hancock Place. He started his chiropractic practice last June.

A 1979 graduate of Bangor High School, Dr. Vanidestine earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Maine in 1983. He worked three years for the Merrill Trust Co., then attended Logan College of Chiropractic.

He credits Dr. Robert Soucie, a Bangor chiropractor, with helping him launch his medical career.

According to Dr. Vanidestine, the majority of the patients he has treated have suffered from neuro-muscular-skeletal problems, especially with the spine. “Low back pain or neck pain are the majority of the medical problems that we see,” he pointed out.

Dr. Vanidestine said that for chiropractors, “keeping the spinal colummn properly aligned is our main duty, and we’re concerned with its effects on the functions of the nervous sustem.

“We locate and treat spinal subluxations,” Dr. Vanidestine said, explaining subluxations as “bones being out of place.

“We move the bones back into proper alignment,” he said.

After passing the examination to practice chiropractic in Maine, Vanidestine sought office space in Bangor. He chose Hancock Place for three reasons:

“The price was right. I’d looked everywhere, and no one was close on what you spent for what you got for an office and related amenities,” Dr. Vanidestine said;

“The location is superb. I sought some place close to downtown Bangor, so people could work to the office for treatment during a lunch hour,” he said. “Hancock Place is the outskirts of the downtown, yet it’s convenient for the people who work there”;

“Hancock Place is a landmark; everyone knows where the former Viner Shoe building is,” Dr. Vanidestine said.

Dr. Vanidestine sees many patients during a typical work week; his office hours are 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. “I love the profession,” he said. “I enjoy helping my patients to get better.”
