Stand up for rights

The March 20 letter regarding the health care crisis hit the spot in my home. My husband received an increase in his Social Security only to have it gobbled up by rising health care costs. It not only took his increase but much more.

When I called the insurance company about the increase I was informed the state approved this increase. By the state of Maine do they mean the people? No, they mean our elected officials; these being the people who don’t have to worry about health care coverage.

Now Gov. King wants all seventh-graders to have laptops, gasoline prices are out of sight, oil prices have risen and wages remain below average.

We need to start standing up for our rights. It seems Gov. King wants to be remembered as the first one to give computers to seventh-graders. He’ll be remembered for a lot more than that. Edith Graves Hermon
