BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Dianne Fellis’ March 23 letter that identifies network news anchors as left-leaning Democrats is right on point. The liberal network news media should be forced to register as an invisible third political party. The problem is that they shape the public’s political opinions by controlling the content and slant of what they choose to broadcast (i.e. though the need for campaign finance reform is trumpeted daily, there was no network coverage of the Maria Hsia Democratic fund-raising conviction). And they are all the more dangerous because they are not even elected. But besides the subtle wink and nod for the liberal agenda, their most grievous offense is their constant media polling. By continuously portraying results of any media-controlled poll as what the American people think, they actually serve to create that very opinion. It’s called the bandwagon effect.
