LAKE WALES, Fla. – Unearned runs were the difference as Walsh University defeated Husson College 5-1 and Evangel University downed the Braves 2-0 in college baseball action Friday.
In the first game, Doug Yoder’s grand slam in the top of the seventh inning snapped a 1-1 tie. All four runs were unearned for Walsh, of North Canton, Ohio.
Yoder also had an RBI single in the first inning. John Michler earned the win, giving up three hits and three walks and striking out eight. Doug Shadle picked up the save.
Jared Foster had a pair of singles for the Braves of Bangor, and Dave Dostie pitched well, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out five.
In the second game, Aaron Bray’s two-run double in the sixth inning sparked Evangel of Springfield, Mo. Both runs were unearned.
Josh Ferguson and Shawn Henderson each posted two singles for the Braves. Husson stranded 11 runners.
Barrett Dionne also pitched well for the Braves, striking out eight while giving up only three hits and walking none.
