Regarding the gay Boy Scout leader issue (BDN, April 27); for heaven’s sake, a gay is not a pedophile. In fact, there are probably as many straight pedophiles as gay ones.

The history of both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts included a federal charter from the U.S. Congress. This Boy Scout charter, in 1916, authorized the use of the great seal of the United States in the scout insignia as well as the use of the name America (or USA for Girl Scouts now) in the organization’s name. The president has traditionally been honorary president of the Boy Scouts of America. Jane I. Thomas Surry
