The art of brewing

Gabriel Kleinwald’s latest painting will be on exhibit at a refrigerator near you. The 21-year-old sophomore at Maine College of Art won this year’s D.L. Geary Brewing Co. Label Design Competition. Kleinwald’s “Golden Lass” will appear on bottles, six-packs and 12-packs of Geary’s Summer Ale. He also won $3,000, which he will use for art supplies and a summer arts travel program. On the rocks

For those who like to keep it real: Scotch Rocks, ice cubes that come straight from Scotland and go straight into a glass of Scotch (or what have you). Touted as the perfect ice cube, Scotch Rocks are spring water from Glenlivet, poured into sealed trays and ready for the freezer. Glenlivet, once the illegal distilling capital of Scotland, now is the source for some of the world’s renowned single-malt Scotches.

On a roll

The ballots are in, and pineapple prevails. After surveys found that pineapple was the least favorite flavor in LifeSavers’ five-flavor roll, the company gave consumers the chance to pick a replacement or maintain the original lineup. With more than a million votes tallied online and by phone, pineapple edged out watermelon and strawberry. To celebrate, LifeSavers has distributed specially marked “pot-of-gold” rolls and bags of candy. The person who gets the all-pineapple bag or roll will win its weight in gold.
