BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

As members of the freshman class at Sumner Memorial High School in East Sullivan, we wish to rebut a letter from Roy D. Gott titled, “School profanity,” published in the April 25 edition of your paper.

We are in agreement with Roy Gott that any use of profanity by the student body is a problem. However, we disagree with his allegation that it stems from our freshman class. He stated that our class is different from previous freshman classes. It may be true that we are more outgoing and assertive than other classes, but to say we are more profane in our language than the other classes in our school is simply not true and is not fair.

We believe that rather than placing the blame on the freshman class, each member of each class at Sumner should assess his or her own behavior and strive to be a role model for the rest of the school.
