Pleasant surprise in Saint John

On Nov. 1 and 2, I joined a group of city officials, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, and the business community on a trip to visit our sister city, Saint John, New Brunswick. The purpose of the trip was to explore business relationships which might develop between our two cities. What started out as a purely business trip turned into a very enjoyable visit as well.

Seldom have I ever been anywhere where people have been any friendlier. In addition, the downtown area of Saint John, with its network of interior malls and access to the major buildings, could easily serve as an example for what downtown Bangor could be.

Never before would I have given any thought to visiting Saint John as a destination, however, now I find myself wanting to recommend it to others. The people there visit us regularly and maybe the time has come for us to find out what our sister city has to offer as well. I’m sure if your readers make the approximately three-hour ride to the north and east, they will be as pleasantly surprised as I was. Morris L. Fer President, VR Business Brokers Bangor
