Wood sparks Machias to victory

MACHIAS – Nick Wood’s three-run double in the fourth inning helped Machias earn a 14-6 win over Katahdin in a Little League All-Star game for 11- and 12-year-olds Monday.

Chase Ross and Thomas Buck notched a double and a single apiece. Aaron Calor and Isiah Roberts contributed two singles each, and Mark Fields hit an RBI single.

Travis Brooker recorded two singles and a double for Katahdin. Owen McCarthy and Adam Anderson hit two singles and Evan Boutilier drove in a run on a single for Katahdin.

At Hampden, Jake Willis gave up three hits while striking out 14 and walking four en route to the win.

Sam Merrill hit three singles and Joe Cough singled and scored two runs for Acadia.

Camden Murray led Hampden-Newburgh with a two-run homer. Chris Morris singled twice.

Hampden 13, Orono-Veazie 3

At Hermon, Kyle Walbrun pounded out a triple, a double, and a single and got the win on the mound as Hampden cruised by Orono-Veazie.

Hermon pounded out 15 hits in a game shortened to four innings due to rain. Caleb Kirk contributed two singles and a double, Nilan Turner rapped a double and a single, and Patrick Stephens poked a pair of singles.

For Orono-Veazie, Collin Bates and Aaron Healey registered two singles each.

Hampden 12, Katahdin 0

At Hermon on Saturday, Hampden’s Kyle Walbrun, Brennan Perry and Josh Tardiff combined for a no-hitter. Together they struck out seven Katahdin batters.

Ryan Lindeman notched two singles and a double for Hampden. Patrick Stephens hit two doubles and Josh Tardiff contributed a double.

Richard Toothaker pitched the entire game for Katahdin.

At Hermon on Sunday, Caleb Kirk, Patrick Stephens and Josh Tardiff led Hampden to victory by notching a double and a single apiece.

Brennan Perry added a double.

Tim Rod and Jeff Carey accounted for Calais’ two hits, recording a single each.

At Bangor, pitcher Josh Gott held Millinocket to four hits by striking out six batters and only walking two.

Harrison Hines batted in two runs on two singles for Coastal.

Millinocket’s Mark Madore recorded two singles.

At Bangor, Orono-Veazie’s Ryan Levesque pitched a no-hitter, striking out nine batters in five innings.

Jeff Miller notched a double and a single for Orono-Veazie. Levesque recorded two singles, and Dustin Thomas hit a triple.

Acadia’s three runs were scored by Justin Garver and Tim Buell.

Bangor team earns runner-up spot

At Waterville Sunday, the Bangor BABs worked through the losers bracket of the Girls U-16B Fast Pitch Softball tournament before falling to the Maine Frost of Messalonskee 5-1 in Sunday’s championship game.

Rebecca Utterback led Bangor with a three-run double and two singles. Courtney Smith and Gabby Eastman each singled twice and had an RBI. Jen Dall held the Capitals of Augusta to five singles.

Bangor rallied from an 8-0 deficit and backup pitcher Megan Clifford held Saco scoreless for the final four innings when starter Dall left with an injury. Utterback drove in three runs on a double and two singles. Smith had two RBIs on a double and two singles.

The Messalonskee Frost scored three runs in the seventh inning to earn the state championship. Bangor’s Megan McCrum hit two singles and Smith tripled and scored the team’s only run.

ASA Softball, U-12

Bucksport gains tourney bid

At Winslow Sunday, Kelly White struck out seven and walked two as the Bucksport Lady Bucks defeated the Mid-Maine Magic of Belgrade 4-3 to earn the 2000 Maine ASA Junior Olympic State Tournament Class B 12-and-under championship.

The win means Bucksport will participate in a national tournament next month.

Lauren Overlock tripled and doubled in the final game, while Terren Hall and Felicia White each hit a double and a single.

The Lady Bucks also defeated the Saco Stingers 6-0, Maranacook of Readfield 8-2, Capital Maineacs of Augusta 11-7 and A.Y.S. of Jay-Livermore 7-6 during the three-day tournament.

At Bangor, Ben Silver smacked a three-run home run in the third inning and a solo homer in the fifth to lead Bangor West to victory.

Tyson Baron contributed a double, and Kyle Vanidestine recorded a single and two RBIs for Bangor West.

Ricky Adams, Hunter Umphray and Dave Madden notched a single apiece for Holbrook.

At Hermon, Justin Pelkey lashed a triple and a single as Millinocket rolled to the win.
