WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Susan Burt knocked in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning Wednesday, lifting Delaware to a 1-0 victory over Old Town in the New England regional Senior League (ages 15-16) softball tournament.
Old Town was eliminated from the double-elimination event. Pennsylvania and Massachusetts play today for the championship.
Delaware pitcher Kelly Nepi held Old Town to four hits. Sarah Metivier pitched admirably in defeat, giving up only two hits and striking out eight. Metivier finished the tournament with a 1.33 earned run average in three games.
Meghan King paced the offense with a double, while Nicole Garrity, Jamie Higgins and Metivier singled. King batted .467 in the tournament, and Higgins hit .438 with six RBIs. Garrity posted a .417 average and Jess Paul hit .333 with six RBIs. Pitcher Mary Wollstadt had a 2.50 ERA in two outings.
Old Town outscored its opponents 22-12 in five games.
