St. Agatha teen hurt in single-car accident

TOWNSHIP 17 RANGE 4 — A teen-age girl from St. Agatha was treated at a Fort Kent hospital and released late Sunday afternoon after a car she was driving left the road and rolled over.

Julie Sirois, 16, was treated for back injuries, cuts and bruises. She was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center by the ambulance from St. Agatha.

According to Maine State Police Trooper Kim Espling, Sirois was northbound on Route 162, just north of the Sporting Club, when she lost control of her vehicle. Route 162, in the area near the Sporting Club, has several sharp curves.

Sirois failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the centerline and went off the left-hand side of the road. The car rolled over twice before coming to a stop, just feet from a utility pole.

The 1992 station wagon, which was demolished, was owned by her father, Paul Sirois of St. Agatha. The accident happened at about 4:20 p.m.

Espling, who was assisted by Deputy Sheriff Steve Belanger, said there was no alcohol involved, and that Sirois was wearing her seat belt at the time. No charges were filed.

Sirois, who has had a license for two weeks, was alone at the time of the accident.

For a time, Sirois was trapped in the vehicle. Extricating equipment from the Madawaska Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. She was removed from the vehicle before the equipment arrived.
