Maine ski teams posted strong finishes during Eastern High School championships in Nordic and Alpine last weekend.
Both girls and boys teams finished in second place behind New Hampshire at the Eastern Alpine championships at Gunstock Mountain, N.H., while the Maine team finished second overall behind Vermont in the Volvo Eastern High School Cross Country Championships at Bolton Valley, Vt.
At Gunstock, N.H., Maine placed five of its girls among the top 15 in the slalom: 4. Abbie Sewall of Mount Abram in Salem; 5. Sarah Proulx of Oxford Hills in South Paris; 7. Allison Demshar of Mt. Blue in Farmington; 9. Gretchen Conn of Leavitt in Turner; and 13. Kristin Guerette of Madawaska.
In the boys slalom, Maine’s top finishers were: 3. Jay Aloisio of Telstar in Bethel; 4. Peter Lobozzo of Gray-New Gloucester; 5. Luke Lemanski of Cheverus in Portland; 11. Chris Carleton of Oxford Hills and 13. Jake Largesse of Telstar.
Lobozzo’s eighth place and Lemanski’s 15th were Maine’s best finishes in the boys giant slalom while Proulx placed 18th for the girls.
Seth Hubbard of Mt. Blue paced Maine’s strong finish in the cross country championships as he placed third in the six-kilometer race with a time of 14 minutes, 25.84 seconds and a fourth-place finish of 3:42.07 in the 1K.
