Crusaders rally past Tigers> Van Buren’s Ayotte scores twice, leads second half comeback

VAN BUREN – The host Crusaders spotted Fort Fairfield the game’s first goal before rallying for a 3-1 triumph behind two second-half goals by Eric Ayotte in boys soccer action Monday.

Stacy Ayotte equalized in the first half after Fort’s Ryan Bugbee converted an Adam DeMerchant pass into the game-opening goal for the visiting Tigers.

Eric Ayotte broke the tie with 17 minutes leff off a Tyler Hews pass and he added an insurance goal four minutes later off a feed from his brother Stacy.

Sean Violette made four saves on seven shots for 5-1 Van Buren while Tyler Bernaiche stopped 11 of 17 shots for 4-2-1 Fort Fairfield.

Easton 2, East Grand 0

At Easton, Andrew Perry’s two first-half goals carried the Bears past the Vikings.

Marcel Chalou and Ryan Lamoreau assisted on Perry’s goals, while goalie Jeff Blackstone made seven saves on 12 shots for Easton.

Andrew Faulkner stopped 11 of the 25 shots he faced for East Grand of Danforth.

Madawaska 1, Houlton 0

At Madawaska, Marc Garcia booted in a Alex Daigle pass at the 29:41 mark of the second half to lift the Owls over the Shiretowners.

Goalie B.J. Dufour made eight saves on 12 shots for 2-3 Madawaska.

For 2-3 Houlton, James Skehan stopped eight of the 13 shots he faced.

Hodgdon 2, Cen. Aroostook 0

At Hodgdon, Luke Williams assisted on both of Hodgdon’s goals by setting up Dave Stewart for the score in the first half and Kevin Carton in the second as the 2-3 Hawks blanked Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

Hodgdon’s Derek Nickerson saved 12 of 16 shots for the shutout.

The 0-6 Panthers’ Arlie Wiggins stopped nine of 15 shots.

Girls soccer

East Grand 7, Easton 1

At Easton, Mesha Whitney and Tara Cropley both pulled off hat tricks as the Vikings rolled.

Tabbitha Osnoe added an unassisted goal for 2-0 East Grand. Whitney and Amanda Godley chipped in with an assist each. Goalkeeper Lindsay Faulkner turned away four of the five shots she faced.

For 0-7 Easton, Sarah Sullivan recorded an unassisted goal. Jessica Littlefield made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Van Buren 6, Fort Fairfield 0

At Van Buren, Nicole Corbin carried Van Buren to victory with two goals. Myra Cyr, Natalie Cormier, Kristy Wright and Micah LaPlante contributed a goal apiece to 4-2 Van Buren’s final score.

Kyla LaPlante recorded an assist. Goalie Danielle Gagnon made three saves on four shots for the Crusaders.

Kandice Osgood stopped 17 of 29 shots for 0-6 Fort Fairfield.

Washburn 5, Limestone 3

At Limestone, Lizza Maynard and Jill Maynard notched two goals apiece to lead Washburn to their sixth win. Liz Howard recorded three assists. Anna Ouellette also scored for 6-2 Washburn. Goalie Crystal Blakney stopped seven of 14 shots for the Beavers.

Ashley Brooker recorded all three goals for Limestone. Jacinda St. Pierre assisted two of these goals. Susie Johnson assisted the third. Nikki Michaud made seven saves on 17 shots for the 1-4 Eagles.
