A Bangor woman suffered only minor injuries when her former boyfriend hit her on the head about 10 times and hit her car with his own as she was trying to get away, Bangor police said.
The woman had gone to Justin Clark’s apartment on Ohio Street to drop off items belonging to Clark when the pair decided to go bowling and talk about their future, Bangor police Officer Larry Morrill said. During the ride from Clark’s apartment to a local convenience store to pick up a friend before going bowling, the pair began arguing.
The argument escalated when the woman asked to go home, and Clark allegedly struck her and began pulling her hair, the woman told police. When she attempted to leave the vehicle after he had told her to get out and walk, the 20-year-old Clark allegedly pulled the 19-year-old woman’s head onto his lap and hit her four to five times on the head.
The woman managed to grab his face to get away, but he reportedly hit her five more times in the head before she left the vehicle, Morrill said. When the woman arrived back at his apartment to retrieve her vehicle, Clark reportedly parked in front of her driver’s side car door so she couldn’t leave.
When the woman was able to get into her car by other means, Clark bumped her car with his own and then blocked off the exit with his car, Morrill said. Eventually, the woman was allowed to leave and reported the incident to police.
Police later spoke with Clark and found inconsistencies with his version of events, marks on his car consistent with bumping the woman’s car, and scratches on his face, Morrill said. Police also found marks on the woman matching her description of the attack and arrested Clark.
Clark was charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, domestic assault, and criminal mischief and was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
