Jessica bloch put together another solid 15-5 week and held on to her lead as the NEWS Football Forecast reached its midway mark. Bloch maintained her three-game cushion over John Holyoke, who posted an identical 15-5 mark.

Joe McLaughlin and Dave Barber posted the best weekly efforts by staffers with their 16-4 marks.

Barry Jasper of Millinocket turned in an impressive 16-4 mark as the guest but wasn’t able to knock James Raye’s 17-3 from Week 4 from the top of the leaderboard.

The Week 6 guest is one of the region’s most recognizable sports figures, Roger Reed of Glenburn, who teaches and coaches boys basketball at Bangor High.

Reed has led the Rams to 13 Eastern Maine tourney appearances and four state titles in his 14 years as head coach. He also coached at Bangor Christian from 1970-79 and led Baptist Bible College to a National Christian College Athletic Association championship in 1981.

Reed graduated from Carmel High School and played basketball and baseball at the University of Maine at Farmington.

He and his wife, Norma, have a son, Mark, a daughter, Melanie, and three grandchildren: Amanda, Stephen and Abigail.
