PRESQUE ISLE – Rachel Larlee scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Sunday as the University of Maine-Presque Isle won the championship in the Star City Shootout by posting a 91-20 women’s basketball victory over Atlantic Union of South Lancaster, Mass.

In Sunday’s consolation game, Mount Allison of Sackville, New Brunswick, beat UM-Fort Kent 71-26.

The Owls had beaten Mount Allison 55-47 in Saturday’s first-round game, while Atlantic Union edged UMFK 39-33.

UMPI’s Erica McGary, who scored 22 points Sunday, earned tourney MVP honors and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Larlee, Nikki Brown of UM-Fort Kent, Krissa Harrison and Jenny Doucet of Mount Allison, and Atlantic Union’s Leah James.

In Sunday’s title game, Rachel Underwood contributed 14 points, eight steals and six assists for UMPI. Megan Amero added 10 points.

James led Atlantic Union with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

UM-Machias wins two games

At Machias, the UMaine-Machias Clippers posted a 67-49 victory over Nova Scotia Agricultural College Saturday, then beat New Brunswick-Saint John 65-47 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Angela Robb’s 18 points led UMM to victory. Gill Guest tossed in 13 points while Betsy Elmer netted 12.

Carla Shaw led the Nova Scotia Agricultural attack with 12 points.

On Sunday, Betsy Elmer’s 15 points paced the Clippers past UNB-Saint John. Robb chipped in 14 points and Guest tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Lisa McGiness notched 16 points for the visitors while Laurie Hossack added 10 points.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Bentley College defeated Southwest State 75-67 Saturday at the Disney Tip-Off Classic.

Mark Argust scored 20 points to lead a balanced scoring attack. Mike McNally added 15 points and Kevin Van Dam scored 11 points. Leading 35-38 at halftime, Bentley shot .500 from the field in the second half to preserve its lead.

For Southwest State, Scott Koenen scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Jared Miller scored 21 points. The Mustangs out-rebounded Bentley 38-36.

Michigan 82, Wayne State 56

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Freshman Bernard Robinson Jr. had 16 points and 11 rebounds Sunday and Leon Jones scored 15 points to lead Michigan to an 82-56 exhibition victory over Wayne State.

Freshman Josh Moore scored 12 points. At 7-foot-2 and 300 pounds, Moore had a 6-inch, 75-pound advantage on the biggest Wayne State player.

Wayne State, which has lost all five starters from last season, shot 35 percent and was outrebounded 55-28.

Maurice Searight added 11 points for the Wolverines, who open Friday at Oakland University in Michigan.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Troy Murphy had 23 points and nine rebounds and David Graves added 19 points as Notre Dame defeated International Select 89-71 in an exhibition game Sunday.
