ROCKPORT – The Rockport Public Library will wind up its fall marine lecture series this week.
A talk at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, will consider the artistic vision of famed yacht designer L. Francis Herreshoff.
Roger Taylor, author and sailor from Friendship, will make his presentation in the Rockport Opera House.
Taylor is working on his eighth book, a Herreshoff biography to be published by the Mystic Seaport Museum.
The talk is the third in the library’s annual series “Seafaring: Near Shores and Far.”
The program highlights the library’s marine collection, which contains more than 600 works on sailing, building boats, oceanography and maritime history.
Taylor will illustrate his talk with plans and photographs of prominent designs by Herreshoff, whose interest in boats was piqued in part by childhood trips Down East aboard his father’s steam yacht.
Taylor’s talk is sponsored by the Friends of Rockport Public Library.
The talk is free and open to the public.
