ROCKLAND – Folk songs, scenes from Dutch movies, a discussion about contemporary life in the Netherlands and Flanders, and a Flemish lunch are included in Saturday’s immersion course in Dutch at Penobscot School in Rockland.
The class is designed for adults and high school students with a beginning or low to intermediate level in the language. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
Course instructor Laure Jeanmart, Penobscot School’s 2000-2001 exchange teacher in French and Dutch, is a native of the city of Namur in Wallonie, the French-speaking part of Belgium.
Workshop participants will expand their knowledge of common phrases and basic grammar through songs, games, and discussions about Flemish and Dutch culture.
At lunchtime, participants will practice their food and cooking vocabulary while helping to prepare a traditional Flemish meal such as witloof met gehaakte vlees, or endives stuffed with meatloaf.
The course fee, which includes instruction, materials and lunch, is $85. Students enrolled in a weekly course at Penobscot School receive a 15 percent discount. The registration deadline is Dec. 1.
