The people of our household have been supporters (financial and otherwise) of public radio since its inception. Some years ago Rob Gardiner took over the helm at Maine Public Broadcasting and we have since then, by gradual increments, been increasingly dissatisfied with programming changes in both public radio and public television.
We understand, of course, that public broadcasting must and should have something for people of all tastes so our support has continued. However, the latest blow to classical programming on public radio is really too much. To knock Saturday afternoon opera off the air in favor of a silly, mindless comedy talk show is irresponsible.
Other inroads into classical programming can surely be anticipated from a management which thinks this change is in the best interest of its listening and supporting public. Dave Bunker, watch your back.
