Andrew Neff won his third NEWS Football Forecast staff prediction title when he posted a 4-1 record in last weekend’s five-game tiebreaker with Jessica Bloch.
Bloch posted a 3-2 mark in the tiebreaker.
Neff, the defending champion, and Bloch had tied at 159-41 after the regular 10-week series. Coincidentally, the two handle the bulk of the NEWS’ high school sports coverage.
This year’s Forecast, the 35th, was decided by the Bangor-Oxford Hills PTC championship game Friday night, which Bangor won 7-0. The two agreed on the other four games.
It’s Neff’s second title decided by a tiebreaker. He edged Larry Mahoney in a 1990 playoff for his first crown. He won last year by one game, over Pete Warner.
The three crowns tie him for fourth all-time. Pete Warner and former Executive Sports Editor Owen Osborne lead with six.
Ernie Clark of Dover-Foxcroft won the guest crown with a 20-0 record in the final week.
