According to the conservative Heritage Foundation, 59,729 couples (119,458 individuals) residing in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District are affected by the so-called marriage penalty tax. Those figures are even higher in the 1st Congressional District. Under the proposed elimination of that tax, married couples will receive tax relief depending upon income level, itemized deductions and number of dependents.

Almost 200,000 people recently voted for Baldacci. I wonder how many of those affected were included in that count? Maine citizens forfeit their right to grouse about their perceived onerous tax load, especially when they continue to elect representatives who are opposed to alleviating that burden.
