WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Maine Event 16-and-under field hockey team compiled a final record of 4-1 and their 19-and-under counterparts went 1-2-1 in action at the National Field Hockey Festival on Friday.
The 16-and-under team played three games on Friday, losing to New Heights (N.H.) 1-0 before defeating Schuykill Valley 2-0 and F.S. Diamonds 1-0.
In the first game, Natasha Scott of Belfast High and Becca Giroux of Cony combined to make four saves. Maine Event outshot Schuykill Valley 44-0 and got a two-goal effort from Lindsey Hunter of Mount View High. Assists went to Brittany Veazie of Dexter, Kerianne Patterson of Dexter and Jessie Corson of Skowhegan. In the third game, Amanda Chase of Greely scored off assists from Ramie Merrill of Skowhegan and Corson. Scott and Giroux combined to make four saves.
The 19-and-under Maine Event entry lost 1-0 to Pocono of Pennsylvania, then lost to Houston 3-2.
In the first game, Nicole Sergent of Gardiner made six saves and Meghan Gove of Skowhegan made five. In the second game, Emily Dooling of Winthrop and Bri Searles of Skowhegan scored the goals for Maine Event. Jenny Dill of Gardiner assisted on both scores. Gove made three saves while Sergent made five.
Saturday’s games were washed out by rain.
