Spruce Head man faces operating charges

PORT CLYDE – A Spruce Head man has been accused of driving to endanger and other charges after fleeing a Saturday night accident, authorities said.

Michael Myers, 22, was charged with driving to endanger, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to report an accident, Knox County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Todd Butler said Monday.

Butler said Myers had been drinking alcohol before the crash.

Myers was summoned after a deputy later located him, Butler said, adding that Myers eventually had been taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center by private vehicle. According to a hospital spokeswoman, he was treated and released.

Jennifer L. Hodsdon, 23, of Tenants Harbor had been traveling south on Route 131 in a 1998 Mazda sedan when she came upon Myers, who was driving a 1988 Oldsmobile sedan. Myers was going north in the southbound lane and hit Hodsdon’s car head-on.

Hodsdon and Amos Benner, a passenger in Myers’ vehicle, were treated at the hospital and released, according to the spokeswoman.

Damage to Hodsdon’s car was estimated at $10,000, while Myers’ car had $2,500 in damage. Deputy Justin Twitchell investigated the 10:10 p.m. accident.
