VEAZIE – A 40-year-old Veazie man was arrested without incident Monday for a domestic incident that took place during the early hours of Sunday morning, according to Officer Andrew Whitehouse of the Veazie Police Department.

After midnight Saturday, Veazie Police were called to a residence on Maple Street to investigate what was described as a family fight. An officer went to the house and found that the suspect, Roger Shorey, had fled after an argument with his 18-year-old daughter, against whom Shorey allegedly had made threats of assault.

Shorey reportedly pulled the telephone cord from the wall to prevent his daughter from calling the police. Shorey’s daughter reportedly had to flee to a neighbor’s house to call the police, Whitehouse said.

Shorey’s mother also lives at the house, according to Whitehouse. It was reported that Shorey was intoxicated. Shorey is on probation, Whitehouse said, and is prohibited from drinking alcohol.

The investigating officer on Sunday morning was told that Shorey had threatened to harm himself, so the Orono and Bangor fire department rescue teams were called in to assist in the search, as it was feared Shorey might go into the river. The Orono Fire Department deployed a boat to search the river, Whitehouse said. Shorey was not found, and the officers and rescue teams left.

Later Sunday, Veazie police again received a call from the Shorey residence saying Shorey had returned and was going to turn himself in. When police arrived Shorey was not there. Veazie police put out an “attempt to locate” advisory to area police departments, Whitehouse said.

On Monday, Whitehouse said he was given a tip as to Shorey’s location. Whitehouse followed the tip and located Shorey at a friend’s house on Colburn Drive in Orono.

Shorey was arrested on violation of probation and brought to the Penobscot County Jail, where he is being held on violation of probation, obstructing the reporting of a crime or injury, and terrorizing. He will be held until he appears before a judge.
