BASS HARBOR – Coast Guard officers saved a 65-foot fishing boat that was in danger of sinking at the town dock.
The Nordsee, owned by Rodney Wilmer of Bernard, appeared to be taking on water Monday while moored in the harbor, so Tremont harbor master Al Webb called the Coast Guard station in Southwest Harbor. The guard sent two rescue boats to the scene, where the crews found the Nordsee nearly swamped.
They used two pumps to remove enough water to make the boat safe for crew to enter.
Coast Guard officers then boarded the Nordsee, plugged numerous holes in its hull and pumped out the remainder of the water.
