Wilderness First course sponsored in February

PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outdoor Adventure Program International is sponsoring a 72-hour, hands-on Wilderness First Responder course from Feb. 17 to Feb. 25.

The cost of the course is $365 per person. A 50 percent deposit is required by Dec. 18 to reserve a spot. Deposits are nonrefundable after Dec. 20.

This intensive backcountry medical training course will instruct participants how to deal with medical emergencies when victims and helpers are miles from professional assistance and the e-911 is unavailable.

Wilderness medicine addresses patient care in the field, limited equipment and hazardous environmental situations. The course is recommended for individuals such as Maine Guides, snowmobile users, or anyone who goes into the remote wilderness for recreation.

Wilderness Medical Associates will certify graduates. Call Stephanie Speicher at 768-0401 for registration materials or Wilderness Medical Associates at 888-WILD-MED for curriculum information.
