President-elect (sigh)

I was disgusted with the election process. We will never know who the president is supposed to be. I don’t think it’s right for the Supreme Court and the state of Florida to pick the president; they should have counted all the votes or had a new statewide vote. I, for one, will never vote again as long as this election stands.

The U.S. Supreme Court has appointed our next president, George W. Bush. It’s a sad day for all Americans to think a few judges have the power to choose our president. It should be a privilege that every voter has, not a selected few.

We’ll never know the true winner of this presidential race. I believe Bush has a heavy cloud over him because of the way he comes to the White House.

I hope Gore runs again in 2004. Next time, I’m confident every vote in every state will be counted and that each voice will be heard, declaring Gore the victor.

It seems to be over, sort of. We’ll live with it somehow. As a registered Democrat and supporter of Vice President Gore, I am disappointed, but it’s not the end of the world.

Still, I have a word or two for Mr. Bush. During the campaign, I developed some hope based on his oft-repeated words: “I am a strong leader; I work in bipartisan ways; I will bring a new civil tone to Washington; I trust the people.”

Now we see the truth: He is a coward for fearing the count of all the votes of the people; his relentless partisanship to win at all costs is obvious; Republican nastiness and incivility were displayed every day for five weeks; his lack of trust in the people – decent and honest folks who were counting votes -showed real contempt. I am saddened to have lost respect for him. It’s all gone.
