Colby trips up Husson Bates rolls by UMF; Bowdoin tops St. Joe’s

WATERVILLE – Eric Roy had two doubles for two RBIs to help lead Colby to an 8-6 college baseball victory over Husson Tuesday afternoon.

Brandon Royce drove in two runs with a double while Mike Worcester had an RBI single for the Mules.

John McGlinn had a three-run homer for the Braves while Craig Harvey nailed a two-run homer and Matt Simard added a two-run single.

At Lewiston, junior Billy Karz tossed a four-hitter and struck out 11 as the Bobcats won their home opener.

Sophomore Peter Klausmeyer led off the third inning with his first collegiate homer, and Rob Maguire added a two-run shot later in the inning as Bates took the lead for good.

Maguire added an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, Ben Donaldson had three singles, and Owen Miehe rapped a triple and single.

James Writer posted a double and single for the Beavers, and Pat Conway, who took the loss, broke up Karz’s shutout bid with an RBI groundout in the eighth.

At Brunswick, Scott Jamieson pitched eight innings, allowing only two earned runs, to earn a school record-breaking 16th career win.

Kevin Bougie helped lead Bowdoin with four singles and three runs scored while Seth Paradis contributed with an RBI double and a two-run single for the Polar Bears.

Jesse LaCasse hit three singles and scored a run for the Monks of Standish.

At Brunswick, Katie Sheridan, Michelle Jackson, and Liz Swedock each had singles in the first inning to give Bowdoin an early lead.

Rachel Gordon and Emily Rizza both scored for the Polar Bears.

Kristen Tong had an RBI double for the Huskies while Brianna Libby hit an RBI single.
