A Bangor woman was slightly injured Thursday when her car was broadsided by a pickup truck on Outer Broadway.

Ruth Walsh, 40, of Birch Hill Estates, was listed in fair condition Thursday night at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Walsh was attempting a left turn from Judson Boulevard onto Broadway and didn’t see the truck behind a turning school bus, according to Kelly Moore, a Garland Street Middle School pupil who saw the accident from the bus.

Stephen Slowick, 43, of Old Town Road in Hudson, and his passenger in the pickup truck, 82-year-old Lillian Peasley, escaped injury, according to Bangor Sgt. Frank Crowley.

Walsh was alone in her 1984 Pontiac four-door, which received $4,000 damage. Crowley said damage to the truck was estimated at $3,500.

Walsh reportedly was not wearing a seat belt. It was not known whether Slowick or Peasley were wearing safety restraints.

Bangor police reported that there were two more incidents of car windows being shot by vandals apparently using BB guns. The rear window of a Bangor woman’s car was “smashed,” apparently by a BB pellet, according to a police report. The car, a 1977 Chevrolet Impala, was parked in the driveway of her Kenduskeag Avenue home. Damage was estimated at $350.

An employee of Rent-A-Wreck at the Airport Mall reported that someone apparently used a BB gun to shoot the rear window of a rental car parked at the company’s lot. The rear door window on the right side also was shot. Damage was estimated at $300.

A Brewer man reported to Brewer police that he found a .38-caliber bullet in the wing of his airplane while it was parked at the Brewer Airport. Foul play was not suspected.

A Bangor man reported that someone walked on the hood of his 1989 Nissan car and kicked in the windshield as it was parked overnight near Judy’s Tavern on Essex Street. Damage was listed at $500.

Arnold Thompson, 21, a Penobscot Job Corps student living in Bell Dorm, was summoned by Bangor police and charged with theft after allegedly taking a pack of cigarettes from a Bangor convenience store.

Someone pried open the door of an arcade game at the LaVerdiere’s Super Drug Store on Main Street in Bangor. The suspect took about $25 in arcade tokens, and damage to the machine was estimated at $100.

Russell M. Betts, 35, of Orrington, was arrested by Brewer police early Thursday and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and operating a motor vehicle after license suspension. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

Brewer police arrested Paula Faulkner, 33, of Brewer, on a Hampden Police Department warrant for failure to appear. She was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
