Calais defeats Machias frosh

CALAIS – Scott Hill led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points to lead the Calais freshman boys to a 63-52 win over Machias here Wednesday. For 1-2 Calais, John Gibson had 12 points. For Machias, 0-1, Troy Dennison tossed in 21 points while Darren Richardso added 19.

Eagles beat GSA frosh

ELLSWORTH – Dana Hodgkins scored with 1 second left in the game to lift the Ellsworth High freshman boys basketball team to a 57-55 victory over George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill Wednesday. Hodgkins led the way with 11 points for 4-0 Ellsworth, David Thomas added 10 and Ben Hamilton scored 9. For George Stevens, now 3-2, Mike Candage scored 23 points and Tom Pickering added 12.

Ram frosh top Nokomis

NEWPORT – Robbie Jarvis and Matt Newman scored 13 points apiece as the Bangor High freshman boys basketball team defeated Nokomis High 66-48. The game was the Rams’ first of the season and the Warriors fell to 1-2 with the loss. Danny Erskine scored 25 points for the Warriors.

Brewer JHS girls win

Denise Hewes scored 18 points to lead the Brewer Junior High girls basketball team past Fifth Street Middle School 38-31 at Fifth Street in Bangor Wednesday. Heather Commack added 6 points for 4-0 Brewer. For the Bulldogs, now 2-2, Sara Parker led with 11 points and Jen Guerrin and Kelly Waterman added 8 points apiece.
