Maine controls weekend series against Pace Bears tally 47 runs in 4 wins

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Run production wasn’t a big problem for the University of Maine’s baseball team this weekend as the Black Bears scored 47 runs to sweep two doubleheaders from Pace University, 14-0 and 18-12 Saturday and 7-4/8-3 on Sunday.

The Bears banged out 16 hits as catcher Alain Picard had a double, two singles and two RBIs. Brett Ouellette and Pat Tobin each had two singles.

Williams went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. His first homer was a two-run shot with no outs and his second was a three-run blast with two outs in the seventh.

Picard had four hits including a double for two RBIs. Livulpi chipped in with a double, two singles, and three RBIs as Maine belted out 19 hits.

Despite yielding a run and three walks in one inning of relief, Paul Broder notched the win.

In Sunday’s first game, Drapeau hit a solo home run along with a double and single to help pace the Bears. Picard had two singles and two RBIs. Livulpi (three steals) and Williams each had two hits. Shelby Langford went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Setters’ offense.

In the second game, Drapeau went 3-for-4 with another solo homer and a double as Maine built a 5-1 lead in the first four innings. Livulpi, Picard and Williams each had two hits as the Black Bears finished up with 56 hits in the four-game weekend set.
