America! Come to your senses! Kuwait provides a piddling 1 percent of our oil, and Iraq 2.6 percent. We are talking about a grand total of 3.6 percent. How does 3.6 percent threaten “our jobs, our way of life, our own freedom, and the freedom of friendly nations,” to quote the president? And is it really true that our access to any of this lousy 3.6 percent is threatened? If 97 percent of Iraq’s economy depends upon oil revenues, then Saddam has got to sell it; even Gadhafi depends upon western markets….
The press coverage of this situation has been disgraceful. It is not the job of the media to “sell” the administration’s policy, whip up a war frenzy, or pull the nation together, dragging out the old World War II nostalgia. When the lives of our sons are at stake, we deserve less drama and more debate. Jonette Christian East Holden
