Two-car accident sends Rockland woman to hospital

ROCKLAND — One woman was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center for treatment Monday after a two-car accident at Pleasant Street and Broadway. Fern L. Chipman, 58, of Rockland was treated at PBMC and released, officials reported.

Lt. Michael Collins said that Chipman, driving a 1986 Pontiac, was traveling south on Broadway when a 1987 Oldsmobile driven by Alice M. Winslow, 67, of Rockland crossed Broadway in front of Chipman, who was unable to stop.

Chipman complained of back pain and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Winslow was unhurt, Collins said. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, police reported.

Damage was estimated at $1,000 to the Pontiac, and $500 to the Oldsmobile. Investigating the 10:45 a.m. accident was Officer Stephen Johnson.
