Brewer routs Mattanawcook JHS

Denise Hewes’ 15 points led a balanced scoring attack as the Brewer Middle School defeated the Mattanawcook Junior High School 51-24 in Brewer on Friday. Heather Cammack added 10 points for the 7-1 winners. For 0-6 Mattanawcook of Lincoln, Casey Lowell posted 6 points.

WA freshmen stay undefeated

EAST MACHIAS – Paris Taylor scored 14 points as Washington Academy remained undefeated with a 64-36 freshman basketball win over the Calais Blue Devils on Friday. For 6-0 WA, Corey Smith posted 10 points. Calais, 4-4, was led by Scott Hill’s 16.

Orono 10-1 with win over Central

EAST CORINTH – Sean Hews led three players in double figures scoring 18 points and leading the Orono Red Riots to a 65-49 freshman basketball win over host Central High School here Friday. For the 10-1 winners, Mark Thibodeau posted 14 points and Kevin Churchill added 12. Central, 2-6, got 23 points from McLean Pullen.

Schenck frosh boys remain unbeaten

MILO – Jeremy Deveau scored 29 points to lead the Schenck freshman boys of East Millinocket to a 68-54 victory over host Penquis here Friday. For 8-0 Schenck, Mark Farmer scored 15 points and Jarrod Stanley had 12. For 2-7 Penquis, Levon Russell had 14 points. Tom Crossman and Adam Harmon scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

DI-Stonington girls beat MDI

STONINGTON – The Deer Isle-Stonington junior high girls team notched a 31-26 basketball win over the Mount Desert Island elementary school here Friday. Molly Haskell paced the 6-2 winners with 14 points. Lisa Reneault scored 10 points for 4-2 MDI.

Gray leads MDI to win

STONINGTON – Brad Gray poured in 35 points to lead Mount Desert Island to a 64-41 win over Deer Isle-Stonington in junior high boys basketball action here Friday. Jason Ashur added 13 points for the 6-0 winners. Ryan Jones paced 5-3 DI-S with 15 points and Tony Robbins added 10.

Mount View downs Belfast

BELFAST – Shawn Weed scored 11 points and Cale Rickford added 8 to lead the Mount View Mustangs to a 33-28 freshman boys basketball win over the Belfast Lions here Friday. Steve Hall scored 8 points for Belfast and Kevin Payson added 7. Mount View is 4-2 and Belfast is 2-10.
