WELLS – Residents whose wells have dried up now have a source of free spring water.

A stainless-steel tank truck has begun dispensing fresh, clean drinking water at the Highway Department garage. The water is available at no cost to anyone from the town or surrounding communities with a dry or drying well.

The water was donated by Northern Springs, which has offices in Wells and Brentwood, N.H.

The 6,200-gallon truck carries water from an aquifer on a 580-acre property on Wire Road that Northern Springs acquired about a year ago.

Jonathan Pierce, project manager at Northern Springs, said the company is rich in water and wanted to be a good neighbor. The company will keep the self-serve tank available for as long as it’s needed.

Eight Wells residents, including Police Chief Richard Connelly, reported dry wells as of Friday, according to Town Manager Jonathan Carter. The free service amounts to a significant savings for people with dry wells who resorted to buying bottled water.
