Bee to test student skills in geography

GREENVILLE — The first round of the 1991 National Geography Bee for the Greenville Middle School will be held at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the high school auditorium.

The finalists for the 1991 school bee are Ben Roberts, Tyler Nute, Rance McEachern, Mike Burgess, Andy Taylor, Juan Morales, Jake Ward, Garth Blair and Laura Noyes.

For the third year, the National Geographic Society is sponsoring this school-level geography bee for students in the fourth through eighth grades in almost 40,000 schools across the United States, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories, as well as Department of Defense schools around the world. Additional sponsorship is being provided by AMTRAK and Kudos Snacks.

The winner of the Greenville Middle School bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination. All school winners have the potential to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college scholarship, at the finals on May 22 and 23 in Washington, D.C.
