ORONO – Rachel Bouchard, the University of Maine women’s basketball team’s senior center, was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row, it was announced Monday.
Bouchard’s 23.2 points-per-game and 10.5 rebounds-per-game helped lead the Black Bears to an 18-8 record this season and the NAC regular season championship.
The 6-foot-1 center from Farmingdale also heads the list for the NAC All-Conference team along with junior teammate Tracey Frenette (9.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg). Missy Kelsen (18.3 ppg) of Portland, a junior at the University of Vermont, was also named to the first team along with Marion Dukeman (15.5 ppg) and Jill Sosnak (13.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg), both of Boston University.
Sosnak was the NAC Rookie of the Year.
Maine’s Julie Bradstreet (9.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.8 apg) heads the second team all-conference list along with Mary Jane Besselink and Lana Thomas of Hartford, Laura Seiden of New Hampshire, and Jennifer Niebling of Vermont.
Chris Strong (6.5 ppg, 3.9 apg) of Maine and Sosnak of BU top the All-Rookie team along with Thomas, Carrine Jones of Northeastern, and Sheri Turnbull of Vermont.
Vermont Coach Cathy Inglese was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row for leading her team to a 21-6 overall mark and a second-place NAC finish.
