LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – John McGlinn knocked in three runs on two singles and a double as the Husson College Braves beat Lyndon State 13-12 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Sunday.

Husson beat Lyndon in the second game 10-4 to complete a strong weekend as the Braves topped Lyndon 4-0 in Saturday’s first game but fell 7-5 in the second.

In Sunday’s first game, Craig Harvey and Josh Ferguson each singled twice and had two RBIs for the Braves. Dan Sweet led Lyndon with two RBIs on two singles and two doubles.

In Sunday’s second game, Jason Folsom smacked a three-run homer in the seventh and Mike Worcester hit a two-run shot in the third for Husson. Aaron Brideau singled twice and added an RBI.

In Saturday’s first game, David Dostie pitched a one-hitter for the Braves, fanning 15 and walking two. McGlinn and Deric Prescott hit two singles apiece, while Harvey and Ferguson each had an RBI single. Nick Merrill singled in the seventh for the lone Lyndon hit.

In Saturday’s second game, Worcester hit three doubles and drove in three runs.

Southern Maine wins two

At North Dartmouth, Mass., on Saturday, the Huskies’ 5-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader with UMass-Dartmouth gave Ed Flaherty, who has coached the Huskies for 17 years, his 500th career victory. Southern Maine then took the second game, 6-3.

In the first game, Ryan Adams scattered six hits while battery-mate Peter L’Italien belted three hits, including his third homer of the year.

In the second game, the Huskies scored four times in the sixth to overcome a 3-1 deficit.

Brian Marshall drove the inning’s first run in with a sacrifice fly, and Greg Stacy and Brian Marshall closed it out with an RBI single each.

Monks sweep UMF

At Farmington, the Saint Joseph’s College Monks of Standish swept a four-game weekend set against UMaine-Farmington with a comeback 7-6 win and an 11-0 shutout Sunday after winning Saturday’s games 9-1 and 7-0.

In Sunday’s first game, catcher Derek McIntosh sparked a four-run rally in the seventh with a three-run homer for the Monks.

Andy Exley scored on a wild pitch for the winners and Lucas Hannigan ripped a two-run double.

In the second game, Nick Mirabello rapped an RBI double to launch a Monk scoring binge that collected 11 runs in the final three innings.

Jesse LaCasse hit a two-run single for the winners, as did Exley. Howard Rutherford added a sacrifice fly.

In Saturday’s first game, LaCasse was the big St. Joe’s hitter with a two-run homer and an RBI double. Howard Rutherford went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

In the second game, McIntosh drove in two runs with a home run and a single. Ray Doubleday doubled for the UMF Beavers.

Maine, Albany split weekend games

At Albany, N.Y., a Katie Churchill sacrifice fly that scored Erica Sobel proved to be the game-winning run as the Black Bears topped Albany 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. Maine went on to win the nightcap Sunday 2-0 after dropped two games Saturday to the Great Danes, 2-1 in the opener and 2-1 in the second game.

In Sunday’s first game, Candace Jaegge scattered six hits and struck out four. Sobel doubled and singled for Maine. Lynette Bohannon hit a double and a single for Albany.

In Sunday’s second game, Jennifer Merchant fired a two-hitter with three strikeouts for the Black Bears. Melissa Mather had an RBI single. Valerie Terry and Stacy Kowal each singled for the Danes.

In Saturday’s opener, Terry and Jess Kostenblatt each knocked in a run for the winners. Kostenblatt also had a double.

In Saturday’s second game, Terry and Bohannon drove in Albany’s runs to produce the 10-inning triumph. Aliesha Rautenberg ripped a double for the Black Bears. Merchant pitched 9? innings, surrendering nine hits and two runs, striking out nine.

Southern Maine wins two

At Gorham Saturday, the Southern Maine Huskies took two from Eastern Connecticut, 3-1 in the opener and 6-4 in the second game.

In the first game, Angela Cote lined a two-run double to break a 1-1 tie in the fourth. Katie True scored on a double by Sunshine Anders in the first.

In the second game, Darci Holland knocked an RBI double to give Southern Maine a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Huskies sweep Bobcats

At Lewiston Sunday, the Huskies outscored Bates 21-6 in two games, taking each of them, 9-0 in the first and 12-6 in the second.

In the first game, Sunshine Anders had a two-run double to spark a eight-run second in which the Huskies collected eight runs on three hits, four errors and two walks.

In the second game, Southern Maine snapped a 6-6 tie by going on a six-run barrage in the final inning to ice the game.

Renee Heath blasted her third homer of the season for the Huskies and Anders added one as well. Darci Holland smacked a double.

Thomas sweeps UM-Presque Isle

At Waterville Sunday, Devon Burnell picked up two wins for the Terriers in a doubleheader against the Owls, winning both games 4-2.

In the first game, Jasmine Carey singled and scored three of Thomas’ four runs.

In the second game, Jamie Kolis’ two-run single in the bottom of the inning put the Terriers up for good.

Husson salvages one of three

At Lyndon, Vt., Sunday, the Braves won the middle game of a tripleheader, 8-5 over Lyndon State.

Lyndon took game one, 9-0 and game three, 7-4.

In the second game, Rhonda Chambers led the charge with three singles. Stacy Akerman launched two singles to go with a double, and Missy Michaud ripped two singles.
