Fort Fairfield tips Limestone 6-5

FORT FAIRFIELD – Mickey Browning’s sacrifice fly with nobody out in the seventh inning lifted the Fort Fairfield Tigers to a 6-5 schoolboy baseball victory over the Limestone Eagles Wednesday.

Phil Rochford had singled and moved to third on Aaron Kenneson’s double to set up the sacrifice fly. Kenneson added a single and winning pitcher Shea Armstrong provided two singles and an RBI for Fort Fairfield.

Armstrong tossed an eight-hitter, striking out five.

Derek Patten paced Limestone with a double and two singles. Jerid Hendrickson singled twice.

At Woodland, Chad Pike knocked out two singles and tossed a six-hitter, striking out 11 and walking five, as the Dragons rolled.

Justin McCourbey had a trio of singles and two RBIs for Woodland. Jeremy Gillespie ripped two singles and added a sacrifice fly. Andrew Knapp rapped two singles and an RBI.

Ben Mahoney jolted a triple for the Tigers of Eastport. Westly Ellington picked up a double and a single, and Jason Bones had a pair of singles.

At Millinocket, Stearns’ Dan Frost hurled a two-hit shutout, striking out five and walking two.

Frost was solid at the plate as well, knocking a double, single, and driving in a pair of runs for the Minutemen. Anthony Arsenault had a double and two RBIs, and Matt Leino added a single.

Jared Sylvia and Brandon Carmichael singled for the Shiretowners.

At St. Agatha, Mike Corbin pitched 4? innings of scoreless relief, fanning 11 to propel the Crusaders to the win.

Tyler LaPierre jolted a three-run triple to go with a single for Van Buren. Stacy Ayotte added an RBI single.

Andrew Gervais, Brad Thibeault, and Todd Thibeault all singled for the Pioneers.

At Mars Hill, Chris Blanchette doubled twice and drove in five runs to help lead the Hodgdon Hawks past Central Aroostook.

The Hawks, who took advantage of nine walks and eight CAHS errors, were also paced by Chris Stewart (double and single) and Ben Cantor (RBI single).

Kyle Larrabee tripled and doubled for two RBIs while Dan Codrey had a two-run single for the Panthers.

At Danforth, Griffin Hardy’s two-run single in the seventh lifted the Warriors of Dyer Brook.

Corey Edkins chipped in with two singles for SAHS, and Joe Putnam doubled.

Scott Flannery drove in three runs for East Grand with a solo homer and two singles. Tim Irish added an RBI single, while Chris Irish and Seth Preston each singled twice.

At Washburn, a leadoff walk, one-out walk, and bunt single loaded the bases before Clint Carter delivered a game-winning, two-run single in the sixth for the Beavers.

Carter had two singles and Seth Milton had an RBI for Washburn.

Nic Thibodeau had two singles and an RBI for the Warriors.

At East Machias, Steven Colbeth and Ryan Harnon combined to toss a one-hit shutout and strike out seven as the Raiders rolled.

Colbeth was productive at the plate as well, ripping a three-run homer to go with a double and a triple, driving in four runs overall. Ricky Fagonde cracked a three-run blast of his own. Barrett Craven belted a two-run homer, and Nick Reynolds added a triple.

Joe Richards singled for the Bulldogs’ lone hit.

At Guilford, Buddy Bates hit a solo home run, a double, and a single to propel Piscataquis to victory.

Dan Macomber singled three times behind Ben Smith, who scattered eight hits and struck out five. Smith also tripled and singled, as did Tyler Tracy. John Luellen rapped a two-run double.

Josh Bishop and Kyle Morrison posted two singles each for Dexter.

At Rockland, Parker Tootill and Mike Curtis each drove in three runs to power the Tigers past Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Curtis tripled and singled while Tootill singled twice. John Bonney added a solo home run, and Wade Oliver singled twice.

Andrew St. Clair notched a two-run single for MCI.

At Searsport, Pasco Grove had a solid game on the mound and at the plate, hurling a two-hit shutout and fanning 11 batters in addition to rapping a single, a double, and knocking in a trio of runs at the plate as the Vikings sank the Tigers.

Jared Kronholm ripped two singles and drove in a pair for Searsport. Marcus Quisenberry put down a pair of bunt singles and scored a run. Justin Young knocked a two-run single to go with a sacrifice fly.

For Sumner of East Sullivan, Dustin Young had a single.

At East Machias, Crystal Stauffer threw a one-hitter and teammate Andrea Govoni gave her all the run support she’d need with a triple, single, and three RBIs.

Jen Savard singled twice and Emily Mawhinney singled and drove home three runs for the WA Raiders.

Rachel Strachen’s fourth-inning RBI single was the only hit by the Bulldogs.

Amanda Fitzpatrick and Sara Oliver each had a single for Hodgdon.

At Harrington, Missy Barbee drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double to highlight a four-run sixth inning that gave the Knights the win and avenged last year’s loss to the Blue Devils in the regional semifinal.

Amanda Barbee and Annie Woodsum also each provided RBI singles in the sixth inning. Ashley Woodward earned the win by allowing only two hits while striking out 16 and walking two. It was the second straight excellent performance for Woodward, who struck out 17 in her team’s win over Sumner of East Sullivan on Monday.

Lanna Martin hit an RBI single for Calais and Katie Frost tripled.

Keely Sayers rapped an RBI single for Fort Fairfield. Ashlee Bubar scattered two hits and walked one. She struck out three.

Melisse St. Pierre smacked an RBI single for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Erica Bickford added a single.

Sarah Dufour rapped four singles and knocked in a run for the Owls. Ashley Bouchard jolted an RBI double.

Danielle Pinnette had a trio of hits for the Warriors, a double, two singles, and an RBI. Mindy Morneault notched an RBI triple, and Nicole Saucier added an RBI double.

At St. Agatha, five walks and three hits, the biggest of which was Nicole Caron’s grand slam, led to 10 runs in the second inning as the Crusaders won their season opener.

For Van Buren, Caron also had an RBI single while Amy Vaillancourt added a double and a single. Danielle Gagnon singled twice and Megan Ouellette had a double.

Michelle Bourgoin had a triple, double, two singles, and four RBIs, while Cindy Chamberland singled twice for the Pioneers.

At Guilford, Karen Nelson prevailed in a pitching showdown with Caterina Riitano to help the Tigers beat the Piscataquis Community Pirates of Guilford.

Nelson allowed three hits while striking out 12 and walking three for the winners and was aided by two Brittany Veazie singles.

Riitano also gave up only three hits and struck out 15 while walking seven. She also cranked a solo home run.

At Lincoln, Shannon Pietras drove in three runs and Jaide Littlefield drove in two to lead the Lynx past Penobscot Valley of Howland.
