In Pete Warner’s April 3 report, he lists the winners of coach of the year honors in the past high-school basketball season. Ron Brown was chosen to honor the Class D coaches. Ron is an excellent coach and had a fine season, but did the coaches who did this voting forget about the first year head coach of Southern Aroostook High School?

Greg Howes no doubt deserves coach of the year honors. You cannot deny that to win a state championship your first year out is nothing less than an outstanding feat. If this similar feat was accomplished in the pros of college there would be no question.

However, there are some who will say that the talented team was the reason for the championship. Son, you’ve got to remember even if you have a fast horse, without a good trainer and a good jockey, he’s just another fast horse.
